Jan van Zwieten is conferred the title of WUNU Doctor Honoris Causa
Today, on the Day of the Ukrainian Language and Writing, a meeting of the Academic Council was held at West Ukrainian National University.
The Chairman of WUNU Academic Council Andriy Krysovatyy addressed the audience: "The Ukrainian language is the language of our will, our independence, our rebellion, it is the language of everyone who lives with Ukraine in their hearts. I am convinced that the preservation of our identity is the affirmation of the Ukrainian language as an important factor in national self-determination."
Jan van Zwieten, rector of the Netherlands Business Academy, president of the International Association of Mediation, was awarded the honorary title "Doctor Honoris Causa" for his significant personal contribution to the development of education and science, enriching the intellectual potential of Ukraine, and reinforcing the reputation of West Ukrainian National University in the international arena. The rector of WUNU presented Jan van Zwieten with diplomas and gifted him a mantle. Students performed gaudeamus in honor of such an occassion.
In his acceptance speech, prof. van Zwieten reflected: "I am glad to be a part of the scientific community of the classical university of Ternopil and am convinced that new joint educational projects await us ahead. I have been cooperating with Ukraine for more than 20 years, and I am pleased that during this time your country has transformed into a truly democratic European state. The international community appreciates your efforts in the struggle for independence."
