 The Embassy of Canada in Ukraine announces the launch of the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives program.

The Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) supports small but highly effective projects that meet the Government of Canada's international assistance priorities. The program aims to support initiatives developed primarily by local partners. Projects are selected and approved by the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine. The CFLI also supports positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries and their civil societies by deepening contacts and supporting local initiatives.

The Embassy of Canada recognizes the role of local volunteers and civil society organizations in addressing the most pressing needs of the Ukrainian people during the Russian invasion. The CFLI program in Ukraine aims to support the efforts of these organizations and movements in helping Ukrainians protect their communities and institutions; strengthening the resilience of the Ukrainian people, communities and institutions in the face of Russian aggression; and helping to lay the foundation for recovery and peace. The Embassy encourages applications from youth organizations and initiatives.

With the ongoing Russian invasion, it is clear that humanitarian needs are gaining attention.

Please note that the CFLI program cannot support purely humanitarian aid, as it focuses on initiatives that are aimed at achieving long-term results.

All projects must be in line with at least one of the following CFLI thematic priorities:

support for stability and security, aimed at preventing conflicts and promoting peace;
Inclusive governance, respect for diversity, democracy, human and minority rights, and the rule of law;
promotion of economic growth for all, including women's economic empowerment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, investment in the poorest and most vulnerable, and economic stability;
gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls;
human dignity, including health, education and nutrition;
environmental and climate protection, focusing on mitigating conflict-related impacts and addressing negative consequences.
