Within the framework of the project "Public Diplomacy Studies 5.0" under the certificate programme "European Studies: Diplomacy, Politics, Law, Economics, Communications", a meeting was held with Jacek Michalowski, a Polish statesman and public figure.

During the lecture, the participants discussed Poland's experience of democratic transformation and "democratic transition"; the European Union as a community for common achievements based on common principles and values; freedom, self-government and solidarity as key values; the principles of democracy, the rule of law, sustainable development and subsidiarity; the fight against corruption, historical figures, democracy building and strengthening of civil society.

To truly become a part of the EU, Ukraine must sincerely and honestly accept European principles and values. At the heart of European principles is the human being, an individual who is socially and financially secure and feels safe. Only such a person is capable of creating all facets of the state's life in a high-quality and democratic manner.

Ukraine has vivid examples of the principle of subsidiarity in its history, which gives good reason to say that Ukraine is a European country. Poland and other European countries also have corruption, but it is not systemic or dominant. The task of Ukrainians is to reduce the level of corruption to the point where it is not systemic.

We would like to thank Jacek Michalowski for the depth of his thoughts and warm conversation, the project coordinator and moderator of the meeting Oksana Stemkovska, PhD, CDSD expert, for daily communication, a wonderful and informative meeting, and all our participants for their interesting questions and intellectual discussion.
