Intervisionary meeting "Types of questions and techniques for their use in negotiations and mediation"
On April 13, an interactive meeting "Types of Questions and Techniques for Using Them in Negotiations and Mediation" will be held for students of the Negotiation Psychology and Mediation programme. The mentor is Viktor Savchenko, a mediator, research fellow at the University of Oxford (Oxford, UK), PhD in Law, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv, Ukraine).
Students will learn the classification of questions in negotiations and mediation by form, content, purpose, intent, and will practice asking them competently.
Questioning techniques are often difficult to master. Knowledge of the tasks that require certain types of questions, understanding the intent of the questions, knowing the impact of certain questioning styles, and, of course, practice will help. A "good" question should be appropriate to the stage of mediation and negotiation and the situation under discussion, combine a request for certain content with a form of request that inspires trust, encourages active communication, and shows respect.
During the session, participants will be able to learn why open-ended questions should be favored; why it is important to ask leading questions in negotiations; try to combine neutral questions with explanations; and identify the types of questions to avoid.
