International Symposium "Global Security and Responsible Leadership"
Recently, a new international research project has been launched at West Ukrainian National University within the framework of bilateral cooperation with the University of Nairobi (Kenya) - the International Symposium "Global Security and Responsible Leadership".
The symposium is organized by B. Havrylyshyn Educational and Research Institute of International Relations of WUNU together with the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies of the University of Nairobi as a series of inter-university scientific events dedicated to global security and responsible leadership.
The Rector of West Ukrainian National University, Andriy Krysovatyy, addressed the participants of the symposium with a welcoming speech. Iryna Ivashchuk, Director of the Institute, thanked her colleagues for their willingness and courage to launch this project, destined to become a launching pad for the development of cooperation between partner universities. Patrick Maluki, Head of the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies at the University of Nairobi, emphasized that the only way to solve global problems is through international cooperation and coordination of efforts. That is why partnership between higher education institutions is very important for the internationalization of science.
During the discussion, the colleagues discussed a number of issues:
Roman Zvarych, Head of the Department of International Economic Relations, spoke about environmental sustainability in the context of global trade openness;
Martin Odhiambo Ouma, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies at the University of Nairobi, spoke about the opportunities and challenges of developing local sustainable agri-food systems in Kenya;
Leonid Bytsiura, Head of the Department of Ecology and Health, Member of the International Water Resources Association, discussed the strategy of leadership and partnership in the context of global water policy;
Shazia Chaudhry, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies, University of Nairobi, focused on the impact of climate change on mangrove ecosystems.
The event was moderated by Viktoriia Homotiuk, Deputy Director of the B.D. Havrylyshyn Education and Research Institute of International Relations.
