Training course for police officers of the Main Department of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia region
The Education and Research Institute of Communications of West Ukrainian National University will host a two-week training course on "Psychological Features of Crisis Negotiations for Police Officers in Extreme Conditions of Service". The target group will be police officers of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Main Police Department. Training will focus on crisis negotiations in the course of ensuring the protection of citizens' rights and freedoms, combating crime, maintaining public safety and conducting special operations.
The co-organisers of the event include the Netherland Business Academy (the Netherlands), Assertive Group (Switzerland), the Israel Trauma Coalition (Israel), and the Education and Research Centre for Social and Psychological Support and Resilience of the WUNU (Ukraine).
The programme is based on innovative European and global educational approaches. Classes will be held in an interactive format of discussions and practice in accordance with David Kolb's experiential learning methods (30x70), designed for effective adult learning based on the principles of andragogy.
The purpose of the programme is to familiarise participants with the basic concepts and key issues of the theory and practice of crisis negotiation, to reveal the structure and specifics of the negotiation process, to identify socio-cultural traditions and national styles of negotiation in different countries, to consider the specifics of world schools of negotiation, to develop practical skills in their organisational preparation and direct conduct; to develop productive professional skills and their application in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in the professional activities of the police.
The training is devoted to the formation of knowledge about psychology in crisis negotiations; philosophy of human actions in the crisis communication process; conducting crisis negotiations in war conditions; conducting crisis negotiations in extreme situations, with terrorists, with people who want to commit suicide; mechanisms of using one's own strengths to fully realise one's potential, increase the level of success of negotiations; professional qualities of a crisis negotiator; secrets of communication outside the conflict; psychological "tips & tricks" for developing communication skills, persuasion and understanding skills, active and passive listening techniques, questioning; self-control and stress management skills; the role of emotional intelligence in crisis management.
The classes will be taught by scholars and practitioners from Ukraine, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Israel.
Based on the results of the final test, participants will be issued certificates of international internship of 75 hours, which contain information about the classes and a list of acquired skills.
