On April 10, 2024, West Ukrainian National University signed a memorandum with the Public Initiative "Save Dnipro", the largest independent environmental information analysis network that combines data on the current state of the environment, pollution, pollutants and environmental protection tools.

The Department of Ecology and Public Health of the Education and Research Institute of Innovation, Nature Management and Infrastructure, together with SaveDnipro, has installed the SaveEcoSensor 3.0 air quality monitoring station, which allows measuring the content of dust fractions of 2.5 and 10 microns in the air (PM2.5 and PM10). The integrated temperature, humidity and pressure sensor automatically corrects the readings depending on the weather conditions, while the heating module reduces the effects of fog, precipitation and freezing temperatures. A built-in power converter and a hardware watchdog timer increase the reliability of the device. This network-connected device takes measurements every 145 seconds and transmits the data directly to a cloud-based service.

The SaveEcoBot system consists of an interactive map and a chatbot on Telegram, Facebook or Viber.

Associate Professor Oleksandr Bondar notes: "Fine dust of PM2.5 and PM10 fractions is generated during combustion and is one of the most harmful forms of air pollution. It can penetrate deep into the lungs, circulatory system and brain, causing health problems such as heart attacks, respiratory diseases and premature death."

The air quality parameters are shown on the graph at the address: Lvivska Street, Ternopil, Ukraine. The graph shows various air parameters during the period from 19 to 21 March 2021.

Air monitoring is one of the elements of not only controlling environmental quality but also preventing the negative impact of pollution on human health.

In accordance with its Development Strategy, West Ukrainian National University is implementing the concept of a "Green University", which includes measures to improve the environmental impact of its activities based on the highest standards of environmental friendliness and resource conservation.
