Meeting with an international expert on crisis negotiation and mediation
Recently, the Education and Research Institute of Communications of West Ukrainian National University hosted an important meeting with Farid Chrabieh, a highly experienced international negotiator and recognised expert in crisis management. The meeting was attended by the Institute's Director Oksana Koval and the Coordinator for International Activities Anastasia Martynevych.
Farid Gene Chrabieh has 18 years of international experience, having led numerous missions around the world, including in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He has worked in the most challenging environments, in war-torn countries, including active war zones and on the front lines. As the co-founder and COO of Chrabieh & Schweizer Consultancy, Mr Farid and Cedric Schweizer provide security and crisis management consulting services, as well as assistance in complex negotiations and mediation.
Mr Chrabieh is a senior professional international negotiator and a recognised expert in crisis management, high-stakes negotiations and complex humanitarian mediation. Most recently, he worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross as a hostage rescue adviser and chief negotiator.
The meeting focused on risk management and risk prevention, as well as the exchange of experience in crisis and humanitarian negotiations. Farid shared his experience as an advisor to the ICRC on hostage incident management and described his contribution to the creation and training of the organisation's first ever hostage negotiation team.
Of particular note is the fact that in 2023 Farid Chrabieh was awarded the UNITAR/ADN Negotiator of the Year Award at the UNITAR World Negotiation Day 2023. This prestigious award is given annually to an outstanding negotiator who has demonstrated exemplary skills and achievements in the international arena.
The ERIC plans to continue cooperation with Farid Chrabieh for the further development of international projects and professional development of students of the educational programme ‘Psychology of Negotiation and Mediation’, as well as colleagues and partners of the Institute: employees of law enforcement agencies, psychological services, business sphere aimed at developing stress resistance, emotional intelligence and forming key competencies in the use of interactive tools and new approaches to successful negotiation in extreme conditions.
