Environmental School of Public Administration for Sustainable Development ‘Carpathians-2024’
Implementation of the Green University concept is part of the Development Strategy of West Ukrainian National University. The Environmental School of Public Administration for Sustainable Development has been operating at the Department of Management, Public Administration and Personnel since 2021 to implement the concept in practice.
Recently, for the fourth time, the Carpathians-2024 Environmental School of Public Administration for Sustainable Development was held for undergraduate students of the Public Management and Administration programme.
The School's locations included nature reserves and cultural and historical sites in Khust district of Zakarpattia region and Stryi district of Lviv region.
Each Environmental School is a comprehensive educational and training programme. During the School, students participated in an environmental quest ‘UN Global Sustainable Development Goals’, an interactive workshop ‘Inclusiveness in organising an eco-trail: barriers to implementation’, a foresight lab ‘Using the environmental potential of the community’, and a discussion panel ‘The role of youth in ensuring sustainable development’. The events were organised by the School's curator, Professor Hryhorii Monastyrskyi, and associate professors Alina Zhukovska, Nataliia Kotys and Inna Chykalo.
In addition, the students and their mentors visited the Tustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve, Synevyr National Nature Park, Old Village Museum of Architecture and Life, Shypit Waterfall Ecological Trail, and climbed one of the highest peaks of the Borzhava Range, Mount Hymba.
