As part of the Savings Week 2024, teachers of the S.I. Yuriy Department of Finance of West Ukrainian National University continue to hold educational events aimed at developing financial literacy and shaping the financial culture of Ukrainian youth.
On 31 October 2024, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department Viktoria Bulavynets, together with students of the MARK-21 group, organised and conducted the educational and cognitive quest ‘Financial Fast Track’. Two teams of students of the Professional College of Economics, Law and Information Technologies took part in the competition.v
The meeting of the organisers and participants of the quest began with introductions, warm greetings and familiarisation with the rules of the game. The organisers emphasised the importance of team spirit, analytical skills and physical abilities of team members. After the players had determined their strategy (some focused on speed, others on cohesion, efficiency, etc.), the exciting competition began.
At each of the six locations of the quest, the teams were given a specific task that required appropriate financial knowledge and skills:
- They searched for a book in the library using a hint: ‘A book that teaches you how to control costs’. This task allowed them to demonstrate their information research skills and ability to concentrate;
- solved a financial crossword puzzle, which helped to consolidate the basic concepts and terms in the field of finance;
- looked for five stickers in the hall, which were necessary for further completion of the quest. This stage added momentum and showed the importance of physical fitness;
- solved a financial puzzle;
- put together a financial puzzle that required logical thinking and the ability to combine different elements of financial knowledge;
- solved a task related to the rational use of a personal budget and the ability to save money.
Only after going through all the locations and completing all the tasks did the teams receive the letters from which they had to spell out the keyword.
The competition ended with the victory of the Circumference team, but all participants demonstrated great creativity, teamwork, physical endurance and financial awareness.
The participating teams received certificates and a surprise prepared by the organisers. The event was filled with energy, enthusiasm and mutual support. The quest showed that our young people are capable of implementing positive changes that will influence the development of new financial skills and appropriate financial behaviour, and that financial literacy can be fun and interactive.
