Working meeting with foreign stakeholders
The Dutch Police Academy in Apeldoorn hosted a working meeting between representatives of West Ukrainian National University and the National Police of Ukraine and foreign stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by Oksana Koval, Director of the Education and Research Centre for Communications of West Ukrainian National University, and her deputy Anastasia Martynevych, as well as by officers of the National Police of Ukraine online.
Foreign partners also joined the discussion on the introduction of international experience into the work of the National Police of Ukraine:
Harold van Opsiland, Coordinator of the Negotiation Cluster of the Netherlands Police Academy (Netherlands),
Gus Meershoek, Doctor of the University of Twente (the Netherlands),
Nikita Romboets (Netherlands), researcher at the Netherlands Police Academy,
Farid Jean Chrabieh, co-founder and COO of Chrabieh & Schweizer Consultancy (Switzerland).
One of the issues discussed during the meeting was the use of international experience in the implementation of the project ‘Crisis Communications in the National Police of Ukraine’ in the activities of police agencies and units.
The main purpose of the meeting was to lay the groundwork for future cooperation in areas of critical importance for Ukraine in academic, research and practice-oriented activities; consolidation of efforts aimed at improving mechanisms for protecting the interests of individuals, society and the state, preventing human rights violations, and creating a strong communication culture in society. The discussions during the visit focused on finding ways of cooperation that would bring mutual benefits to both institutions and make a positive contribution to their respective fields, such as crisis negotiations in the protection of citizens' rights and freedoms, combating crime, maintaining public security and conducting special operations.
During the visit, the staff of the Netherlands Police Academy and Chrabieh & Schweizer Consultancy agreed to exchange valuable experience and materials that are of great importance to our specialists.
In addition, Oksana Koval had a separate meeting with Teun-Peter de Sna, a lecturer at the Netherlands Police Academy, a PhD candidate in clinical psychology at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and a researcher of police stress resistance. He will coordinate the arrangements for further Ukrainian-Dutch cooperation. Mr de Sna also provided interesting research materials, in particular: ‘Resilience research: On Human Processes in Police Work’ (a series of studies by the Police Academy); “Stories of Resilience in Police Practice” (which provides insights into real-life scenarios and experiences); “Innovation, Collaboration and Leadership - Key to an Innovative Ecosystem” (which explores key aspects of modern policing); “Strategic Research Plan for the Police for 2023-2026” (which outlines the strategic vision and goals of future research).
This visit was made possible thanks to the strong support and facilitation of the Netherlands Business Academy, represented by its Rector, Professor Jan van Zwieten. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Professor Jan van Zwieten and the entire team at the Netherlands Business Academy for facilitating this enriching experience.
