WUNU students completed the course “Comparative law: the USA and the EU” from the University of Pittsburgh
Students of West Ukrainian National University have unique opportunities for professional development thanks to the cooperation of WUNU with the world's leading universities. Recently, students majoring in Law and International Law attended the course ‘Comparative law: the USA and the EU’ organised by the University of Pittsburgh. They gained new knowledge, valuable experience and positive impressions.
Ksenia Pohozhai, a student of the PR-21 group, shares her impressions:
'I recently took the course 'Comparative law: the USA and the EU' organised by the University of Pittsburgh. It was an interesting and very useful experience. I learnt more about the two main legal systems of the world – Romano-Germanic and Anglo-Saxon. This gave me a better understanding of how different legal principles work and how they are applied in practice.
During the course, I realised how important it is to study law from a comparative perspective. Analysing different legal systems helped me to see how culture and society influence the drafting of laws and people's legal awareness. We discussed many interesting topics, from comparing personal data protection mechanisms to the basics of European law and private international law. I was especially fascinated by the discussions during which we not only studied theory but also analysed real cases.
This course has given me new knowledge and inspiration to continue studying the law of different countries. I now understand that lawyers must take into account not only the common features of legal systems, but also their differences.
