Public Diplomacy Studies 6.0: lecture by Inna Khomenska
On 13 February 2025, within the framework of the Public Diplomacy Studies 6.0 project, an open lecture ‘How to create impactful messages in communication’ was held.
The speaker was Inna Khomenska, PhD in Philology, Director of the Media Centre of the Directorate General for Redndering Services to Diplomatic Missions. Among the participants of the meeting were civil servants, representatives of the Serhiy Konoval Department of Political Science and Philosophy of WUNU, students and representatives of local self-government.
The Directorate General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions is responsible for ensuring the operation of foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine, promoting the development of national culture and art, and protecting cultural and historical monuments and the environment.
During the lecture, Inna Khomenska spoke about the key aspects of Ukraine's public diplomacy, the main ways of establishing and maintaining diplomatic relations through cultural, sporting and official events. She described the peculiarities of formulating the main messages about Ukraine and lobbying for national interests. She also highlighted the initiatives of the organisation, including the creation of Ukrainian language courses for foreign diplomats.
The participants learned about the peculiarities of drafting official letters to ambassadors of other countries, which are an important tool for effective cooperation. Attendees also got acquainted with the activities of the organisation in the field of publishing, in particular, the creation of the professional scientific yearbook "Ukraine Diplomatic" and the quarterly magazine "Diplomacy without Borders".
After the main presentation, many important and interesting questions were asked about personal experience in debunking myths about Ukraine imposed by the aggressor in different countries, assessing the work of Ukrainian diplomats abroad, and finding new ways and channels to strengthen Ukraine's position in the information war.
The event was a valuable opportunity for students and professionals to learn more about international communications and diplomacy, as well as to gain practical knowledge from an expert in this field.
