In September 2024, West Ukrainian National University launched a national educational project “English for War Veterans and Their Families”, which involves retired war veterans and their families, family members of deceased war veterans, family members of deceased defenders of Ukraine, residents of Ternopil and Ternopil region.

The training takes place at the Education and Research Center for the Study of Foreign Languages of WUNU in Ternopil, as well as at the Taras Shevchenko Kremenets Regional Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy and the Chortkiv Education and Research Institute of Entrepreneurship and Business of WUNU.

Students are trained using a communicative intensive English language program with the use of modern multimedia and interactive teaching methods. This approach allows for a comprehensive learning experience that ensures the improvement of relevant language and literacy skills. The educational process is provided by the best teachers of WUNU on the basis of special methods (Prof. Chyk, Assoc. Prof. Yanus, Khmiliar, Sikora, Hontaruk-Mamchur, and Kovalchuk). Upon completion of the training, students of the Center for the Study of Foreign Languages of WUNU will receive certificates confirming their advanced training and certificates of English language proficiency in accordance with the European Recommendations for Language Education.

The project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and in cooperation with the Department of Veteran Policy of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration and local social welfare departments of Ternopil and Ternopil region, as well as veteran NGOs and unions, including the NGO “Union of Disabled ATO/JFO Participants of Kremenets Region” (headed by Hryhorii Zhuzhelskyi), the NGO “Families of Fallen Soldiers of Kremenets” (headed by Alla Labutkina), and the NGO “Families of Fallen Soldiers of Ternopil” (headed by Olha Stasiv).

We express our sincere gratitude to all participants of the educational initiative “English for War Veterans and Their Families”, first of all to the military personnel for defending the Ukrainian land and the integrity of our state, as well as to their families, the teaching staff, the relevant state authorities, law enforcement agencies, as well as public organizations and veterans' unions for their active life position and assistance in the implementation of state social programs in the Ternopil region.
