STEM Kick-Off: Starting the era of discovery!
Recently, the Education and Research Center for Communications of West Ukrainian National University hosted the first lesson of the STEM Laboratory - “STEM Kick-Off: Starting the era of discoveries!”. This event was a great opportunity for inspiration and learning of modern technologies in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
The participants of the event - students of the vocational college of WUNU - got acquainted with the main areas of work of the laboratory, learned about the organizations and partners that supported the creation of the laboratory in the implementation of this important project, namely the American non-governmental organization Vovk Foundation, the charitable foundation BlueCheck Ukraine and the NGO International Institute of Communications, and planned the next steps in STEM development.
One of the key parts of the class was an introduction to the modern equipment that is now available to all our participants. In particular, these include interactive panels, a modern video conferencing system, interactive desks and tables, VR glasses, and more. In general, this is only a third of the modern equipment that will be used in the STEM lab.
The students performed interactive tasks that allowed them not only to see but also to feel how STEM education can be exciting and useful. This was the first step towards a deeper understanding of how technology is changing our world and opening up new horizons for creativity and innovation.
At the end of the event, the participants took part in a team game of Kahoot, which became a real test of their STEM knowledge. This interactive form of learning allowed not only to consolidate the information received, but also to have fun competing in a friendly atmosphere. In addition, at the end of the event, the participants received a special task. Those who successfully solve it will have a chance to study at the STEM school of WUNU.
We are grateful to the teachers who joined the first STEM class and created an extremely interesting and informative atmosphere for students, full of positive emotions and a desire to learn and discover something new: Ihor Romanets, Maria Bryhadyr, Diana Boiko, and Dmytro Khudyk, as well as Oleh Vatslavskyi, Maria Shesterniak, and Mykhailo Machuliak for their help in organizing the class.
“Together, we are starting a new era of discovery at the West Ukrainian National University, where each of you can be part of great changes in the world of science and technology,” said project coordinator Oksana Koval.
See you at the new classes in the STEM lab!
