A special artistic event took place at the West Ukrainian National University - the grand opening of the exhibition of the famous Ternopil artist Natalia Basarab. The exhibition is entitled ‘More than Life’.

Nataliia KBasarab's artistic portfolio includes dozens of solo exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. She has created hundreds of paintings and graphic works. Her paintings are colourful, emotional, expressive, and at the same time, they are full of gentleness and kindness, and a great love for her native land.

Nataliia is the winner of the ‘Person of the Year 2015’ award, one of five artists from Ternopil region who have their own postage stamp. In the exhibition ‘More Than Life’, the artist presented 46 paintings, thematic pieces, landscapes, and portraits of the military.

The subjects of the artist's paintings are full of harmony and warmth, and her work captivates, conveys incredible energy, inspires and demonstrates that art is accessible to everyone.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, dramatic motifs have appeared in the artist's paintings, reflecting the realities of our time. Nataliia, together with Ternopil's Prosvita, launched the charity project ‘Their Eyes Look into the Soul’. The artist has created about 1000 portraits of the military, including those wounded in hospitals and clinics. We are very pleased that this project was also implemented at our university. Nataliia has painted more than 40 portraits of the military from among the staff, students and graduates of WUNU.

Natalia Turchyn, the head of the Ternopil City All-Ukrainian Association ‘Prosvita’ named after Taras Shevchenko, and Olha Vavryk, the deputy director of the Ternopil Regional Art Museum, spoke at the opening of the exhibition.

A musical performance, including a dance routine, was presented to the audience by Maria Voloshchak, soloist of the TNG dance company, multi-time winner and World Dance Cup champion in contemporary choreography, a student of WUNU.

In her solo, she brought to life the famous painting ‘Drinker Absinthe’ by Pablo Picasso.

Ilona Diadio and Yurii Dziula hosted the grand opening of the exhibition.

We are confident that each observer will find something that will resonate strongly with their inner self and thoughts.

We invite you to see the exhibition, which will be open at WUNU throughout March.
