EU renews sanctions to support Ukraine's territorial integrity
The European Council has prolonged EU restrictive measures targeting actions against Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence. These sanctions consist of an asset freeze and a travel ban against 146 persons and 37 entities, and will be effective until 15 March 2017.
An assessment of current restrictions found no reason to justify a change to the sanctions, nor in the list of persons and entities under restrictive measures.
Several EU measures are already in place in response to the crisis in Ukraine: economic sanctions targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy and restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, limited to the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The measures were first introduced in March 2014 and were last extended in March 2016. All legal acts are available in the EU Official Journal.
